The main spirit of the meetings held in Germany is that Europe should be a space from Lisbon to Tbilisi, – stated the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, who is on a visit to Germany.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, all representatives of the Bundestag and all factions have the mindset that Georgia is part of Europe.

“Today, our delegation had meetings with the President of the Bundestag, Berbel Bass, with the chairmen of the committees for Europe, legal affairs and defense. At all meetings, the main spirit was felt. This is the spirit that our population recently heard from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz when he said that Europe should be the space from Lisbon to Tbilisi. All representatives of the Bundestag and all factions have the mindset that Georgia is part of Europe, so Georgia’s accession to the European Union is a decision that will definitely be implemented,” Shalva Papuashvili said.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, at the meetings that the Georgian parliamentary delegation is holding in the German capital with high-ranking political officials, the host country positively assessed Georgia’s efforts aimed at EU membership and noted that Germany supports granting Georgia candidate status.

“We talked about the importance of making the political decision firm. Next year, when it comes to deciding on the candidate’s status.

Regarding the technical parameters and various criteria required for the status, Georgia certainly meets these criteria, we have 12 more recommendations that we are working on, we will do our best to complete this work as soon as possible, and then already expect the European Union to evaluate our work and make an appropriate decision,” Shalva Papuashvili said.
