Former US Assistant Secretary of State David Kramer, who supports sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, is a private individual who cares about Georgia’s welfare, US Ambassador Kelly Degnan said, noting she would not comment on Kramer’s statement.

Representative of the George Bush Institute, David Kramer, in an interview with Formula TV stated the following:

“At the moment, without sanctions, the country is clearly moving in the wrong direction. With targeted sanctions, I think, there is an opportunity to demonstrate that the continuation of the current behavior by the Georgian government will certainly be followed by an appropriate punishment, an appropriate price.”

When asked by reporters what she thought of Cramer’s statement, the US ambassador replied:

“Mr. Kramer is a private individual, a citizen who is valued in academic circles, who knows Georgia well and is very worried about the fate of the country. I do not want to comment on his statements, but of course, he closely follows what is happening in Georgia and is very worried about the success, security, development and well-being of Georgia. His comment comes from his experience,” she said.
