On behalf of the United National Movement, I declare that the main priority of our political force was, is and will be the integration of Georgia with the free world; the release of President Saakashvili and his transfer to a Western medical facility; democratic development of the country and freedom of the media, said Nika Melia, chairman of the National Movement, at a briefing held at the party’s office.

As Melia noted, the struggle for freedom continues until victory, and this struggle will certainly end in victory.

“The largest political assembly of the People’s Party was held in Lisbon, at which a resolution was adopted, which notes that the Georgian authorities ignore 12 recommendations of the European Commission and impede the European perspective of Georgia; the authorities must stop political persecution in Georgia; Mikheil Saakashvili should be released and transferred for medical treatment abroad, while Nika Gvaramia should be released unconditionally.

The resolution explicitly states that power has been seized, and resolutely fixes an unshakable position on the imposition of sanctions against the oligarch Ivanishvili. During this visit, we once again clearly saw that the only obstacle to Georgia’s European integration is Bidzina Ivanishvili and his government. This opinion is also shared by the US Senate, where two days ago they assessed the processes as a huge setback and started talking about the advisability of revising the strategy towards Georgia.

On behalf of the United National Movement, I declare that the main priority of our political force was, is and will be the integration of Georgia with the free world; the release of President Saakashvili and his transfer to a Western medical facility; democratic development of the country and freedom of the media. The struggle for freedom continues until victory, and this struggle will definitely end in victory,” Melia said.
