“Today, together with the entire civilized world, we celebrate the International Day of Tolerance. Tolerance, respect for people, respect for dignity and acceptance of differences are an ongoing tradition of our great culture and history and an integral part of the Georgian identity. For centuries, different people of different nationalities, religions and traditions lived together with dignity on our land and together created the history of our common Motherland.
Even today, the basis for building a peaceful and development-oriented society of modern European Georgia is precisely this great heritage and values. Each group of this society, each of its members should feel like a participant and creator of this important process.
The basic values of human rights and freedoms are recognized and guaranteed by the constitution of our country. We respect and will always defend the dignity and freedom of every citizen,” the prime minister said.
International Day for Tolerance is observed annually on 16 November. It was solemnly proclaimed in the UNESCO Declaration of Principles on Tolerance, which was approved in 1995 at the 28th General Conference of UNESCO.
