According to Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream party, the ruling team took into account the recommendations of European Commissioner Oliver Varkheli and the EU Ambassador to Georgia regarding the submission of the draft law on deoligarchization to the Venice Commission.

According to him, that is why it was decided to send the bill to the commission.

“In the end, we decided to send the bill to the Venice Commission before it is finally adopted in the third reading. The reason for this was a request that we publicly heard from Oliver Varhelyi.

The European Commissioner’s recommendation was to send this document to the Venice Commission. We also had a meeting with the newly appointed EU Ambassador. I personally met with him, and we heard from him a request to send the bill to the Venice Commission. Even now I believe that it was not necessary to send this document to the Venice Commission, although, since there were such requests, we took them into account. Accordingly, the bill was sent to the Venice Commission,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
