Representative of Georgian Dream commented on the statement of the US senator
According to Mdinaradze, Shahin has not made any statements regarding Georgia for several months, and issued a critical statement against the government after European Commissioner Oliver Varhei made positive remarks about the country:
“Yesterday, EU Enlargement Commissioner Varhei made completely different, positive statements and messages for Georgia. And, in our opinion, unfortunately I have to say this, a negative reaction followed today,” Mdinaradze said.
According to him, an instant negative reaction to Varhei’s statement followed first from the Georgian radical opposition, and today from the US representative.
The politician called it “very unfortunate” when a representative of a country that is one of the main strategic partners of Georgia “follows an excellent and inappropriate reaction”, the assessment expressed by Varhei.
“I won’t say anything more than that. This assessment by Ms. Shaheen, in my opinion, is a direct reaction to what Varhey said. Yesterday and the day before yesterday there were very positive messages from the European Commissioner regarding Georgia, there were very positive messages from the NATO Secretary General, and this, unfortunately, was followed today by an attempt to move our country to a negative agenda,” he said.
Mdinaradze noted that talks about funding were also connected with an attempt to “transfer to a negative agenda.”
“For several months, Ms. Shahin did not say a word about Georgia, either good or bad, and this only happened when the European Commissioner [сделал] positive statements about Georgia,” the politician repeated.
