“Unprofessionalism, lack of control of power and irresponsibility kills”

Public Defender Nino Lomjaria commented on the death of a 13-year-old teenager in Vake Park, noting that a system that is indifferent to security is to blame for the incident.

“On November 24, 2017, 11 people died in Batumi due to non-compliance with fire safety rules in a hotel… On October 8, 2021, 9 people died in Batumi due to non-compliance with construction safety rules, including 3 children.

After all this, on June 23, 2022, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a law in an expedited manner that allowed building in Batumi without protecting the stability of buildings, fire safety and evacuation norms! We immediately appealed this law to the Constitutional Court so that the court would immediately terminate its operation, as it threatens the life and health of people, but the court did not even discuss this issue, and the head of the government of Adjara mentioned us in his usual style, ”writes Lomjaria.

As noted by the Ombudsman, the death of a 13-year-old girl can be blamed not only for technical performers or controllers, but also for the indifference of the system to security issues.

“With its legislative, executive and judicial power, self-government! The system, which even after the death of dozens of people, including children, dares to legalize the construction without observing safety regulations, does not consider the submitted complaint.

It should be reminded that on October 13, three children were electrocuted in Vake Park when they took the ball out of the fountain. As a result of the incident, a 13-year-old girl died.

The investigation is underway under an article on violation of safety rules in the design, construction or operation of an electric power facility.
