The whole country is shocked by the tragedy that occurred in the Tskhramukhi monastery, but it is extremely dangerous and wrong to shift the causes of this crime to representatives of specific media outlets, Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia, writes about this on Facebook.

According to him, “it is dangerous to speculate on such topics and create the image of an enemy out of innocent people.”

“Shortly after the tragedy in Terjol, a most serious, cruel crime took place in the Tskhramukh monastery. The whole country is shocked, but it is extremely dangerous and wrong to shift the causes of this crime to representatives of specific media. Tomorrow, some citizen, provoked by this statement, can physically deal with a journalist, resort to violence against him, which we have already seen more than once. It is impossible, it is dangerous to speculate on such topics and create the image of an enemy out of innocent people.

I want to wish the woman – the victim of violence a speedy recovery! I hope that in this difficult time she will receive proper emotional support from those around her,” said Nino Lomjaria.

For reference, on November 25, two people broke into the nunnery of the Khashuri and Surami diocese. They physically dealt with the nun.

Law enforcement officers detained previously convicted 27 and 39-year-old men. The investigation into the facts of robbery and rape committed by a group of persons is being conducted under the 2nd part of Article 179 and the 3rd part of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
