Georgian Education Minister Mikhail Chkhenkeli is coming to parliament on Friday to answer questions from the faction of the opposition National Movement.

Parliamentarians exercised their right to interpellation, a special kind of official request to the government, when a government representative answers specific questions.

The first issue is the increase in the number of Russian-language schools in Georgia after the influx of migrants from Russia. According to the faction, there are currently 11 municipal Russian schools in Georgia and 47 Russian-speaking sectors in mixed schools. At the same time, the number of private Russian-language schools is increasing. The faction asks the minister to clarify the department’s policy on this issue.

The opposition is also concerned about the increase in the number of students taking sabbatical leave – mostly from other cities who cannot afford living in cities due to rising prices.

The third question concerns the internetization program for schools and the last one concerns the plans to dismantle the historical building of the folk school in Nigoichi (Lanchkhut municipality). The opposition believes that the demolition of the building of the 19th century should not be allowed.

On Friday, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili will also come to the parliament to answer the questions of deputies. The block of questions for the prime minister concerns the fulfillment of the conditions of the European Commission for Georgia to obtain the status of an EU candidate and the government’s expectations.
