
The European Parliament will vote for the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism on November 23
This was announced at a briefing on Friday by Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament Delphine Colard, reports “European Truth”.
“On Wednesday, MEPs will vote on a resolution naming Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, given the intensification of Russian attacks on civilians and civilian targets in Ukraine. Members will also call for Russia to be held accountable in an international tribunal,” she said.
In addition, the representative of the European Parliament announced a vote on the decision to approve macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for 2023 in the amount of 18 billion euros, announced by the European Commission.
It is expected that a preliminary vote on this issue will take place on Tuesday, November 22, and after consultations with the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, the final decision in the European Parliament will be taken on November 23-24.
The day before, the political groups of the European Parliament agreed on the text of a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. It will contain a key provision: “The European Parliament … recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and a state that uses terrorist means.”
On October 13, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe unanimously adopted a resolution calling the Russian Federation a terrorist regime. PACE became the first international organization to recognize Russia as a terrorist state.
A number of parliaments of European countries, including the Senate of Poland and the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, have decided to recognize the authorities of the Russian Federation as a terrorist regime.
