Political consultations may take place this week among parliamentary groups on the choice of a candidate for Public Defenders. Opposition deputies raised this issue at the meeting of the bureau and asked the chairman of the parliament at what stage the discussion of the issue of candidates for the post of ombudsman was.

According to the chairman of the parliament, it was not possible to carry out the process within the specified period due to objective reasons, and this week the representatives of the parliamentary factions are already in Georgia, and it is important to conduct this process.

In addition, according to Shalva Papuashvili, the election of the Public Defender cannot be held without the Georgian Dream faction, and MPs should take this into account.

“From the very beginning it was said that the candidate must be equally acceptable to everyone. I do not know how much for everyone, but at least for the qualified majority it will be equally acceptable. Therefore, I urge everyone to look at this issue from this point of view and not be radical poles here, but be able to somehow agree, which ultimately meets the interests of everyone,” Shalva Papuashvili said.
