Rati Bregadze about Saakashvili

Read Time:2 Minute, 2 Second

Any kind of health speculation is, to put it mildly, unethical, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze said about the health of the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to him, the state created all conditions for Mikheil Saakashvili to protect his health.

“Any kind of health speculation is, to put it mildly, unethical. Accordingly, I cannot answer anything more on this issue, I cannot start preliminary assessments. As you know, while no one has seen the conclusion of the Empathy Center, such a conclusion simply does not exist in nature. After this conclusion appears, I have said many times, and now I will repeat it again, the parties can apply to the court to confirm the fact whether the state of health of this person is so severe that it does not correspond to the goals of serving the sentence, and subsequently this issue should discuss the court, not the Minister of Justice and the Ministry of Justice. On this issue, I can say one thing that the state has created all the conditions for this person so that his health is protected and his right is ensured, he is in the appropriate clinic,” Rati Bregadze said.

According to him, the decision to suspend the sentence or release the convicted person is made by the court, and everyone, both citizens of Georgia and foreign citizens, must respect the constitutional system existing in Georgia.

“The European Union is based on the idea of the rule of law and the rule of law in Georgia, as in all other countries, implies the strict observance of the requirements of the law. A prisoner convicted under the legislation of Georgia shall serve his sentence in a penitentiary institution on the territory of Georgia. In order for a person to leave the facility, their sentence must be suspended or they must be released. The decision on this is made by the court, which is independent in Georgia, and, of course, we are all obliged, both Georgians and any other person who is not a citizen of Georgia, to respect the constitutional order that exists in Georgia,” Rati Bregadze said.
