It was confirmed that no one will accept us to Europe with an imitation of the implementation of recommendations, with sham changes. The assessment of European partners is alarming, instead of progress, we experienced regression, – Paata Manjgaladze, MP from the “Strategy Agmashenebeli (Builder)” said, responding to the adoption of the report on Georgia in the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to him, Georgian Dream is not trying to achieve integration into Europe, and now its task is to find a “scapegoat” to blame everything on him if the window of historical opportunity closes because of its own actions.

“Failure to implement the recommendations, closing the window of this opportunity means dooming Georgia to drowning in the Russian swamp, for which the authorities should be held accountable. It is time for a united front, so let’s put aside party and personal ambitions and stand together to defend the future of Georgia. The assessment of European partners is alarming. Instead of progress, we experienced regression, took steps back. Georgian Dream has already made a choice, for them Ivanishvili is Georgia. What we oppose to this, all attention should be focused on this, and not on secondary and tertiary issues,” Manjgaladze said.

For reference, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament supported the report on Georgia’s implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU with compromise amendments.

The European Parliament advises Georgia to resolve the problem of excessive influence of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s personal interests. According to the document, the European Parliament once again calls on the Georgian authorities to release former President Mikheil Saakashvili and allow him to receive proper humanitarian treatment abroad and use this as a means to reduce political polarization. The European Parliament also calls on the Georgian authorities to stop politically motivated criminal cases and review the current criminal cases against media workers and owners of media critical of the authorities or close family members; in this regard, the document considers the cases of Mtavari TV director Nika Gvaramia, as well as directors and founders of other media outlets such as Formula and TV Pirveli, and reiterates the call for a review of Gvaramia’s conviction.
