Lelo releases statement on report on Georgia

The Lelo party publishes a statement regarding the report on Georgia adopted by the Committee on Foreign Relations of the European Parliament with compromise amendments.

The statement says that the report of the European Parliament on the implementation of the Georgia-EU Association Agreement is one of the main documents that determine the policy of the European Union.

“The document establishes that there is a politicized justice system in the country. An example of this is the case against Khazaradze-Japaridze and the deprivation of Japaridze’s mandate.

We have long stated that the only motivation for the prosecution was political, which was confirmed by the European Parliament. We are sure that the same will happen again in the Strasbourg Court.

The report made it clear that when the EU talks about de-oligarchization, it is about freeing state institutions, political, economic and public life from Ivanishvili’s influence. Thus, the correct position of Lelo on the law on deoligarchization has once again been confirmed,” the statement says.

According to the authors of the statement, the government should share the report of the European Parliament, Mikheil Saakashvili should be transferred abroad, and Nika Gvaramia should be pardoned.

“Lelo’s desire is for Georgia to get the status of an EU candidate country as soon as possible, but, as once again revealed in this report, the policy of the Georgian Dream is purposefully destroying our country’s chances. A country with a politicized justice system, political prisoners and an oligarchic system of government has little chance of gaining EU candidate status,” Lelo.
