The assessment of the European Commission on Georgia is more important than the assessment of the deputies of the European Parliament, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili said.

The politician made this statement while commenting on the discussion in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament on the annual report on the implementation of the Association Agreement by Georgia.

The report initiated amendments by some of the deputies regarding ensuring freedom of the media in Georgia, reviewing the sentence of Nika Gvaramia and transferring Mikheil Saakashvili for medical treatment abroad.

According to the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) and Imedi TV channel, during his visit to Tokyo, Papuashvili said that the European Parliament is not a structure that assesses Georgia’s progress.

“We have already seen this movie, when several interested groups are directly pursuing party politics… The main thing is, and we have confirmation from the relevant structures of the European Union, that the European Parliament is not a structure that will evaluate Georgia’s successes… The European Commission will deal with this,” Papuashvili said.
