“I think we were able to present a compromise text that reflects common ground and expresses our support for the European aspirations of Georgia and its people,” MEP Sven Mikser said of the compromise amendments on Georgia adopted today by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Relations.

According to him, the text adequately reflects the implementation of the Association Agreement and the position of the Parliament on what needs to be done by the Georgian authorities to realize the legitimate hopes and aspirations of the population.

“It was a rather complicated negotiation process, and I would like to thank everyone for the constructive approach. I think we have succeeded in presenting a compromise text that reflects our support for the European aspirations of Georgia and its people. The text adequately reflects the implementation of the Association Agreement and the position of the Parliament on what the Georgian authorities need to do to realize the legitimate hopes and aspirations of the population. It also reflects justified criticism of the behavior of the Georgian authorities in various areas. The population of Georgia can be sure that the European Parliament supports the integration process,” said Sven Mikser.

The Committee on Foreign Relations of the European Parliament adopted Sven Mikser’s annual report on Georgia with compromise amendments. The report was supported by 47 MEPs, five opposed.
