Compromise amendments to the report on Georgia’s implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU once again call on the Georgian authorities to release former President Mikheil Saakashvili and allow him to receive proper humanitarian treatment abroad and use this as a means to reduce political polarization.

In the version adopted today, in contrast to the previously circulated text, the release of Mikheil Saakashvili from prison is no longer called a precondition for obtaining the status of a candidate member of the European Union.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament supported, along with compromise amendments, a report on Georgia’s implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. The report has 47 supporters, 5 opponents, 2 deputies abstained.
