Malgorzata Goszewska, vice-speaker of the Polish Seimas, was not allowed to meet with former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Nika Gvaramia, director of the Mtavari Arkhi (Main Channel) TV company.

According to Malgorzata Goszewska, during the rationale for this decision, she was told that she was neither a member of the prisoner’s family nor a member of the Georgian parliament.

“The fact that the president of the country and the director of one of the largest opposition TV channels are in prison does not show the country from the best side. I am very sorry that I received another refusal to meet with the prisoners and I was not given the opportunity to see what conditions they are in and what their state of health is. They explained to me that I am not a member of the family, and I am not a member of the Georgian Parliament, which is absolutely incomprehensible to me, since in previous years I visited Georgian political prisoners many times, and I had no problems with this. I will say again that the Polish state has repeatedly offered the Georgian side to transport Mikheil Saakashvili to Poland for humanitarian and medical purposes, Goshevskaya said.
