The parliamentary delegation of Georgia, within the framework of the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Rwanda, met with representatives of the British parliamentary delegation.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign relations, noted that aspects of the Georgian-British strategic partnership and the possibilities of its deepening were discussed at the meeting.

“They had questions about the situation with Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. In general, what is the impact of Russian aggression in Ukraine on our occupied territories, and not only on the occupied territories, but on the region as a whole. They were also interested in Georgia’s role in the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and we presented them with our vision of a peaceful Caucasus. They also discussed issues of trade and issues related to the Black Sea. We also talked about the phase crisis in Britain, the energy crisis, the new prime minister’s support for Ukraine. A very wide range of issues was discussed during the meeting,” Samkharadze said.

In turn, as the head of the British parliamentary delegation Harriet Baldwin stated, at the meeting the British delegation once again confirmed its strong friendship with the Georgian colleagues.

“The British delegation was glad to meet with the Georgian colleagues. We reaffirmed our strong friendship with our Georgian parliamentarians. We also made sure our Georgian colleagues understood that the UK stands firmly behind our Georgian and Ukrainian friends at this difficult time,” Baldwin said.
