The intention to ensure order at the entrances to the border, including with the use of the military from the National Guard, was announced by the head of North Ossetia, Sergei Menyailo.
“We will strictly suppress offenses, no matter who commits them,” he said, speaking of the situation on the border with Georgia, where many kilometers of people wishing to leave the Russian Federation lined up.
“On the bypass road under construction near the village of Nogir, we are opening an intercepting parking lot for transit vehicles. The situation on the state border of the Russian Federation today requires the intervention of regional authorities – it is necessary to streamline the traffic and relieve the tension that has arisen on the roads of the republic,” Menyailo said on his Telegram channel.
The head of the republic explained that the traffic jam of those leaving for Georgia creates inconvenience for the population of North Ossetia. According to him, for the time being, the police will ensure order in a multi-kilometer traffic jam, but in the future, the National Guard may be connected to them.
Partial mobilization has been announced in Russia since September 21 – the authorities announced that they were going to send 300,000 people to fight in Ukraine. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians began to leave the country.
