The Ministry of Internal Affairs for North Ossetia urged to refrain from traveling in the direction of Georgia through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint due to huge traffic jams at the exit from the Russian Federation.

“The state traffic inspectorate of the republic recommends refraining from traveling outside the Russian Federation,” the agency said in a statement.

A queue for many hours, mostly from cars, formed on the Russian side of the border against the background of the partial mobilization announced in the Russian Federation on September 21. On Friday, the number of cars leaving the Russian Federation reached 2,000, which is a record since the beginning of the year, and today the flow has increased even more.

“Today, on the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, there is a significant accumulation of passenger vehicles that have arrived in the republic and are waiting in line to pass through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint – about 2,300 units in total,” the report says.

Currently, traffic through the customs point is difficult. In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for North Ossetia decided to increase the traffic police squads, which are on duty around the clock in both directions near Upper Lars.
