“We do not want to go to war with the Abkhazians and Ossetians” – Kobakhidze

“We do not want to enter into a war with the Abkhazians and Ossetians and we will not allow this under any circumstances,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream.

According to him, Georgian society does not want to open a second front, given a number of factors:

“One of the factors is that we have to weigh everything, including resources. What will a possible war bring to Georgia? There is another very sensitive issue, which, of course, society also takes into account … theoretically, if we assume that we have a war in Tskhinvali, in Abkhazia, at this time you enter into a war not only with the Russian occupation forces, but also with the Abkhazians and Ossetians. This is something that we already went through 30 years ago and it can be freely called a fratricidal war that we cannot allow.

When it came to the plebiscite, it was the fact that society, the Georgian people, did not want war for various reasons, including because of the possible consequences, and taking into account the fact that we do not want a repetition of what happened 30 years ago . We do not want to enter into a war with the Abkhazians and Ossetians and we will not allow this under any circumstances,” Kobakhidze said.

According to him, when considering the issue of de-occupation and restoration of territorial integrity, the meanings are different.

“When we don’t like it in terms of value and we are concerned that Russians are shooting at Ukrainians, we should consider such a theoretical version that a Georgian is shooting at an Abkhazian, and a Georgian is shooting at an Ossetian,” Kobakhidze added.

On September 13, Kobakhidze said that the Georgian authorities could hold a plebiscite and ask the people if they want to open a “second front” against the Russian Federation in Georgia and thereby “help” Ukraine. He later called his statement sarcasm.

“In this statement, of course, there was a certain sarcasm and irony. We know, and this is evident from the polls, that our society is against war,” said the chairman of Mechta.
