Parliament overcame the President’s veto “On Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia” by 79 votes.

At the plenary session of the Parliament, the motivated remarks of the President of Georgia on the draft law of Georgia “On Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia” were discussed.

According to the parliamentary secretary of the President of Georgia Giorgi Mskhiladze, the adopted bill significantly worsens the standard of human rights protection.

“It is unfortunate that while the prime minister is in Brussels for the first time after the announcement of the 12-point recommendations and is negotiating on the country’s European integration, at the same time the parliament is going to override the president’s veto and finally adopt a law that is contrary to European standards and worsens the protection of human rights which poses a threat to our European future,” the speaker said.

According to Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs, the president’s motivated remarks were not presented either at the Committee’s meeting or at today’s plenary session.
