EU membership is a process based on merit, there is no short cut, no detour, there is political will, a political declaration that will grow into results, and only visible, accessible, tangible results will ensure progress along this path, – said the Supreme EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

As Josep Borrell noted, Georgia is one of the closest partners and allies. According to him, Georgia needs to continue reforms and fulfill 12 priorities proposed by the European Commission.

At the same time, according to Borrell, it is necessary to reduce the polarization in the political spectrum and everyone should take part in the implementation of reforms.

“I want to emphasize that the EU accession process must be carried out on the basis of the consensus of the whole people and everyone must work together, not only the government, but also all political parties. That is why we call this process an inclusive process, because it must reflect the will of the majority of the population to link their future with the European Union. I would like to emphasize the importance of civil society, I would like to emphasize that all participants, all players on this path play their role, although the main responsibility is highlighted. It is not easy, especially given the current political context, but you are not alone, the European Union and all European institutions are with you, they are ready to help you,” Borrell said.
