Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing on September 1 that in order to implement the recommendations of the European Commission, the ruling team is ready for the Parliament of the next two convocations to elect the Prosecutor General with a 3/5 majority.

According to him, for this, the parliamentary majority yesterday “officially initiated a draft constitutional law with exactly the content that was agreed last year on the basis of consultations between the majority and the parliamentary opposition.”

According to him, according to the bill, if a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General does not get 3/5 of the votes of deputies, he will be elected for a period of one year by a simple majority of votes.

According to the chairman of the Georgian Dream, “this bill, agreed with the parliamentary opposition, has no analogues in any country in the world” and “its content contradicts the logic of the management system and elementary legal principles.” He also explained that it was for this reason that the ruling team suspended the adoption of the mentioned changes last year.

“However, due to the fact that the implementation of the 12 points established by the European Union is a special priority for us, as an exception, we will turn a blind eye to legal principles and adopt a new procedure for electing the Prosecutor General without any preconditions,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

He also added that “against the backdrop of sabotage by the radical opposition, the Georgian Dream is actively working to fulfill the 12 points set by the European Union.”

Irakli Kobakhidze presented the majority candidate in the mid-term elections in Senaki
The Chairman of the Georgian Dream nominated Zaza Kurashvili as a candidate from the ruling party in the midterm majoritarian elections in the Teklat and Chaladid majoritarian districts of the Senaki municipality.

“Mr. Zaza is a loyal and active member of our party, enjoying high prestige in his community. We are confident that he will definitely win the elections, after which he will adequately represent the interests of both villages in the Senaki Sakrebulo,” he said.

According to Kobakhidze, after the midterm elections, the Georgian Dream will “establish a strong majority” in the Senaki municipality, “thus putting an end to almost a year of sabotage by the National Movement and its satellite party, For Georgia, in tandem against the interests of the population of the municipality.”

He called on the residents of Teklati and Chaladidi to support the candidacy of Zaza Kurashvili in the elections.
