The governments of ten states – in particular Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and the United States – released a joint statement on Monday, in which they noted the exclusively peaceful nature of their cooperation in countering biological threats.

This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to a statement published on the website of the US State Department.

“Our governments cooperate openly and transparently through the Biological Threat Reduction Program, which is part of the US Department of Defense’s Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. These partnerships are purely for peaceful purposes and have nothing to do with weapons,” the statement said.

The signatories add that the program is exploring ways to protect human and animal health from infectious disease outbreaks, as well as to improve laboratory biosafety and biosecurity.

“Our governments strongly support the common view that such cooperation should not be blown up, but rather promoted and strengthened,” they add.

In addition to Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and the United States, Jordan, Iraq, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda and the Philippines also joined the statement.

Russia is not explicitly mentioned in the statement, but its officials have repeatedly said in recent months that the United States is developing biological weapons in its laboratories around the world.

Thus, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said in June that an “American biological laboratory” was operating in Georgia under the guise of the Lugar Health Research Center.

At the same time, the United Nations said back in March that they had no evidence that Ukraine had a biological weapons program, while Washington and its allies accused Russia of spreading unproven statements as a possible prelude to conducting its own biological or chemical attacks.
