The head of the German Foreign Ministry said the impossibility of negotiations with Putin
Since today it is impossible to achieve an end to the war through negotiations, Burbock noted, Germany “has a choice: either do nothing or support Ukraine militarily in order to stop the further advance of the Russians.” She called on democratic countries to help Ukraine, as “it’s about protecting human life.” As for Germany, the authorities are trying to do everything possible, while not crossing the line after which the country will become a participant in the war, Burbock said.
At the end of July, Berlin delivered the first three of 15 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, three Mars II multiple rocket launchers and three PzH armored howitzers to Kiev, in addition to seven in June. In addition, the government gave Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, the manufacturer of the PzH 2000, the green light to supply Kyiv with another 100 of these systems, worth a total of 1.7 billion euros.
Nevertheless, in some countries of Eastern Europe, there is an opinion that Germany does not effectively support Ukraine and delays in fulfilling its obligations. German opposition parties also accuse the authorities of insufficient support for Kyiv.
According to the newspaper Die Welt, the German government has been ignoring Ukraine’s requests for further arms supplies in recent months. Over the past ten weeks, Ukrainian diplomats have repeatedly raised the issue of arms supplies to the German Ministry of Defense, but the Ministry of Defense, just like the office of the Federal Chancellor, has put these requests on the back burner.
