Speaker of the US House of Representatives: bipartisan support for Ukraine will continue
According to European Pravda with reference to CNN, Pelosi said this during a press conference after the opening of the first parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform on Monday.
“Ukraine is supported by representatives of both parties, both houses of Congress – the House of Representatives and the Senate, and this support in the White House begins with our president,” the politician noted.
“Someone said: “We don’t give Ukraine financial carte blanche.” We have never given Ukraine such carte blanche. there was some kind of carte blanche, is also not true. We are talking about high-level relationships of integrity for the sake of democracy and freedom around the world,” she added.
Pelosi was referring to House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy’s statement that if his party wins the midterm Senate elections, funding for Ukraine’s needs could decrease.
Earlier, we recall, US President Joe Biden also expressed concern about how the United States would continue to support Ukraine if the Republicans, in particular the Trumpist wing, won the elections to the House of Representatives.
Representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties in Congress are discussing the possibility of passing legislation to provide $50 billion in aid to Ukraine in advance amid fears that after the election, lawmakers may be more skeptical of support for Kyiv, according to media reports.
Note that in case of problems with Congressional support for new aid packages to Ukraine, Joe Biden has an alternative tool – the Lend-Lease law signed back in May.
