Today in Georgia Svetitskhovloba is celebrated – this is a public holiday, which is established in honor of the Chiton of the Lord and the Life-Giving Pillar, exuding miraculous myrrh – Svetitskhoveli.

In connection with the holiday, the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II will hold a solemn service in the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

According to the Holy Gospel, Jesus Christ chose 12 apostles. One of them, Judas Iscariot, betrayed him. Later, the Lord appointed the Apostle Matthias to preach in Georgia. On this day, the Church honors the memory of the Holy Apostles: Peter and his brother Andrew, James and his brother John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James Alpheus, Judas Jacob (Thaddeus), Simon the Envious and Matthias.

Svetitskhovloba is celebrated twice a year – on October 14 and July 13. On October 14, the Church honors the Chiton of Christ, and on July 13, all the Apostles of Christ.
