The British Foreign Office summoned the Russian ambassador to London, Andrey Kelin, amid the signing of agreements on the accession of four new territories to the Russian Federation. It is reported by Reuters.

“The UK summoned the Russian ambassador to London on Friday to protest Moscow’s annexation of more than 15 percent of Ukraine,” the Foreign Office said.

On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed agreements on joining the Russian Federation – the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Luhansk People’s Republic, the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The signing ceremony of the agreements took place in the Georgievsky Hall of the Kremlin, where in 2014 a similar agreement was signed with Crimea.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine would apply to NATO on September 30 in an accelerated manner. In his address, Zelensky said that Ukraine “de facto has already passed its way into NATO” and is part of it. Now Kyiv is “submitting an application to do it de jure.”
