US Ambassador Kelly Degnan does not confirm the information spread by the leader of the Agmashenebeli Strategy, Giorgi Vashadze, that the US offered Georgia to provide defense equipment to Georgia.

“The latest statements are full of false information, in fact they are inaccurate, not true,” Degnan told reporters.

“The United States of America called on all allies and partners to help Ukraine in every possible way as Ukraine fights for its territory and sovereignty. From the very beginning, we made it clear that each country decides for itself how to help Ukraine. We never wanted this war to expand or put any pressure on Georgia and other countries to expand the war. Our desire is to end the war as soon as possible, restore stability and peace, and we are working on this,” the diplomat stressed.

According to the leader of the Agmashenebeli Strategy, Giorgi Vashadze, after the start of the war in Ukraine, the American side offered the Georgian government a multi-billion dollar package to strengthen Georgia’s defense capability, which meant supplying Georgia with modern weapons through Lend-Lease and other mechanisms. The retraining of Georgian pilots together with Ukrainian ones was also discussed. According to Giorgi Vashadze, Georgian Dream refused this offer.

Georgian Dream chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said that Vashadze “bluntly accused the American side of the fact that the US is trying to prepare a second front in Georgia.”
