Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, called for the creation of a special tribunal to investigate war crimes.

“We cannot allow impunity for war crimes and atrocities committed by Russia. Ensuring justice and accountability is extremely important. Therefore, Lithuania is in favor of establishing a special tribunal for war crimes committed in Ukraine,” Gitanas Nauseda said.

The President of Lithuania stressed that a lasting peace after the current hot phase of the war is possible only when the territorial integrity of Ukraine is fully restored. He urged the world to look at the actions, not the statements of the Kremlin, and “perceive Russia as it is, and not as propaganda portrays it.”

“Behind the guise of an ‘energy superpower’ is a neo-imperial state seeking to subjugate its neighbors. We must collectively condemn the actions of the Russian Federation and demand that it immediately stop its aggression, withdraw all troops from Ukraine without conditions, and stop irresponsible and dangerous nuclear rhetoric and actions,” emphasized Gitanas Nauseda.

He recalled that Lithuania is one of the countries that most actively support Ukraine at the level of the state and civil society and promised to continue support until Ukraine wins.
