“The law on deoligarchization is unfair and does not correspond to the Georgian reality, to accept it only because someone asked us about it, does not correspond to the behavior of a European country,” said opposition MP Vakhtang Megrelishvili.

As Megrelishvili noted, this law means that all successful people in Georgia will be closed to politics.

“If we really want to become a European country, we cannot do this. I think this is an opinion that we should express to the Europeans as well, if we think so, and if we don’t think so, then this law will turn out that we will close the path to politics for successful people in Georgia. This is the same as if we had thrown Ilya Chavchavadze out of politics in the 19th century, we would not have given him the opportunity to participate in elections and have any political desires. If we do not realize this fact, I think that we really do not deserve to become members of the European Union. In my opinion, this is bringing the struggle of the Georgian Dream and the National Movement to the international arena.

We have the problem of one-man rule, Georgia has never had problems with oligarchs. Georgia has never had as much money and influence as the oligarchs had in the case of Ukraine,” Megrelishvili said.
