Kobakhidze is unhappy that PACE recognized Saakashvili as a political prisoner

“There is one unfair entry in the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the main thing is that the partners know everything about the Saakashvili case,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream party.

According to Kobakhidze, the partners know that prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili is under medical supervision and all conditions for medical care have been created, and the rest is political speculation.

“Everyone knows that Thursday is a passive day in the work of the Assembly. With 56 votes in the Assembly of 600 hundred people, they adopted some changes to the document that mentions Mikheil Saakashvili. This is a sad event in general, but nothing surprises us after a few months ago the European Parliament adopted an absolutely unfair resolution with more than 300 votes,” Kobakhidze said.

To the question that “Ukraine may demand the extradition of Saakashvili, because there were statements about this, what will be the official response of Tbilisi”, Kobakhidze replied:

“The majority of supporters, that is, 56 deputies, supported this resolution. Most of them were Ukrainian deputations, which is especially sad and heartbreaking. However, you know that we politically support the sovereignty of Ukraine, its territorial integrity in absolutely all formats and condemn Russian aggression. When such unfair records are supported against this background, it is very sad,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

The resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also refers to the case of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. In particular, it is mentioned:
“The Assembly also calls for the review of the cases of other political prisoners who oppose President Putin in Russia and other countries and their release (including Mikheil Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine and a former president of Georgia),” the October 13 PACE resolution says.
